WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A home base, ship, or other location with tillable soil and room for the crop type.
A basic crop field needs valid tilled soil, seed, and water at the top of each soil block. Crops can grow on a ship or elsewhere in the universe, so a home plot is convenient rather than mandatory. Keep open space above normal crops and avoid flooding the plot; Reefpods and Coralcreeps are special submerged crops.
A hoe to till valid soil and a watering can, water, rain, or sprinkler.
Open space above plots for above-ground crops.
Storage for harvests and spare seeds.
Pick a level plot with room above the soil for ordinary crops; make a separate water-filled area if growing Reefpods or Coralcreeps.
Till each valid soil block with a hoe and plant the seed in the tilled ground.
Water the top of each tilled block using a watering can, collected water, rain, or sprinkler.
Check that water is not pooling enough to destroy above-ground crops, and leave the plot accessible.
Let plants progress through their growth stages; crops continue growing while you are away from the location.
Interact with each mature crop to harvest it, then inspect the result for produce and any returned seed.
Replant annual crops when their harvest removes the plant, and store surplus produce for cooking or shipment.
Farming tips
Only water on the top of the tilled block counts; water around the sides or below the soil does not substitute.
Some crops return to an earlier growth stage after harvest, while others are destroyed, so watch the plant and replant as needed.
Repeat, collect and use
The plot is repeatable. Each harvest supplies produce, and seed return depends on crop behavior and harvest outcomes; keep backup seeds for crops that are consumed.
Common mistakes
Planting on soil that cannot be tilled; test the plot before laying out a large field.
Blocking the open space above crops or letting water accumulate; leave air and control flooding.
Assuming every crop regrows after harvest; replant crops that disappear and retain spare seeds.
When to stop or switch
Stop expanding once the field reliably supplies the produce you use; add rows only when cooking, crafting, or shipment demand exceeds the harvest.
