Underwater Crop Farming

Reefpods and Coralcreeps provide a distinct crop loop for players who can maintain a submerged plot.

PC / Global, final release
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A contained underwater plot on an ocean planet or an artificial lake filled with water.

Reefpods and Coralcreeps need fully submerged tilled soil with at least three blocks of water above it. That requirement makes this a different setup from an ordinary field: build a contained water plot, preserve its depth, and work around slower movement. A Swimming Augment can make sowing and harvesting more manageable, but the water depth and accessible storage remain the core requirements.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Reefpod or Coralcreep seeds.
  • A hoe and valid soil blocks for tilling.
  • A water-filled plot with at least three blocks of water above the tilled soil.
  • Swimming Augment recommended for easier movement and nearby storage for harvests.
  1. Choose or build an enclosed area that can hold water above a tilled soil floor without draining away.
  2. Till valid soil and fill the area until the soil has at least three blocks of water above it.
  3. Equip a Swimming Augment if available, then plant Reefpod or Coralcreep seeds in the submerged tilled soil.
  4. Check the water depth across the full plot; crops in sections that fall below the required depth can be destroyed.
  5. Allow crops to mature while preserving the water and keeping the plot accessible for harvesting.
  6. Swim through the rows and interact with mature crops to collect produce and any returned seeds.
  7. Move the harvest to nearby storage, then replant crops that were consumed and restore any disrupted water depth.

Farming tips

  • Matter Manipulator water upgrades make creating an artificial lake easier by allowing water collection and placement.
  • Stage storage near the plot so repeated trips through water do not become the limiting part of the harvest.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the grow, harvest, and replant loop while the submerged plot remains deep enough. Seed return is not guaranteed for every harvest, so preserve backup seeds.

Common mistakes

  • Letting water depth drop below three blocks above the soil; restore depth before relying on the plot.
  • Treating these crops like ordinary surface plants; they need full submersion.
  • Starting a large underwater farm without movement support or storage; test a small section first.

When to stop or switch

Stop expanding when underwater movement or water maintenance outweighs the produce you need; keep a smaller plot for the crops you specifically use.
