Farmable Food

Growing food crops creates a renewable supply for cooking and useful surplus for sale.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A watered crop plot on a ship, home base, or suitable planet surface; cook harvested ingredients at a cooking station.

Focus the field on ingredients you actually cook or ship. Wheat, carrots, potatoes, and other crops can be planted in watered soil, but harvest behavior differs: some plants are destroyed and must be replanted, while others return to an earlier stage. Cooking changes raw ingredients into prepared food, so reserve the recipe inputs before shipping surplus.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Seeds for the food crops you want to produce.
  • Hoe and a way to water the tilled soil.
  • A Cooking Table or other suitable cooking station for recipes.
  • Storage to separate food ingredients from shipment surplus.
  1. Choose a small set of crops based on a known meal recipe or current food need.
  2. Prepare valid soil, till it, plant the seeds, and water the top of each plot.
  3. Leave open air above ordinary crops and inspect the plot for pooling water that could destroy plants.
  4. Wait until the mature harvest appearance, then interact to collect the crop output.
  5. Check whether each plant remains after harvest; replant carrots, potatoes, wheat, or other consumed plants as needed.
  6. Use the ingredients at a cooking station for a recipe you can make, keeping those inputs out of the sale pile.
  7. Ship or store surplus produce once you have retained enough seeds and ingredients for the next cycle.

Farming tips

  • Keep a small reserve of each seed so a food field can be restarted after a crop is consumed.
  • Cooking can make produce more useful than selling it raw when you need the resulting food item.

Repeat, collect and use

Repeat the planting and harvest cycle as often as needed. A crop that is destroyed on harvest requires another seed, so the loop depends on saved or recovered seeds.

Common mistakes

  • Planting without checking that the crop serves a recipe or need; choose outputs before scaling the field.
  • Shipping the last ingredient needed for a planned meal; reserve recipe quantities first.
  • Assuming all crops return seeds reliably; maintain backup seed stock.

When to stop or switch

Stop harvesting for food once your storage has a practical meal reserve; redirect additional produce to a shipment order or reduce the plot.
