WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Irrigated surface blocks inside the work area of a staffed farmhouse compatible with the selected crop.
Use carrots for a simple food supply and grow potatoes when you can route them through a Grill. The exact crops available depend on faction and version, so check the crop choices offered by your staffed farmhouse before laying out a large field.
A staffed, faction-compatible farmhouse with Plant Crops available.
Irrigated, suitable blocks within its displayed work area.
A nearby warehouse for harvested food; a Grill and potato storage for grilled potatoes.
Place the farmhouse where its work area covers the intended field, then staff it.
Choose Plant Crops and mark suitable in-range blocks as Carrot or Potato, according to the farmhouse choices.
Keep the field blocks watered; unwatered farmland can fail during drought.
Allow farmers to plant and harvest, and check the farmhouse output and nearby storage for access problems.
Keep carrots available as food, or direct potatoes to a Grill and store the finished food near beaver homes.
Review the work area and crop workload as the field expands; split distant plots between farmhouses if one crew is stretched.
Farming tips
Carrots are directly edible; potatoes need grilling to become grilled potatoes.
Keep crop blocks close enough to the farmhouse and output storage to make routine farming practical.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the planting, tending, harvesting, storage, and potato-grilling cycle as long as the crop remains available and blocks stay suitable and irrigated.
Common mistakes
Planting outside the farmhouse range or with an incompatible faction building: check the displayed work area and crop choices before marking blocks.
Leaving fields to dry during drought: maintain water access and reduce field expansion if your reserve cannot cover it.
Treating raw potatoes as grilled food: route them to a Grill and store the resulting food.
When to stop or switch
Add field area or staffing when the current plot cannot keep the relevant food in storage; switch some area to another crop if food variety or water demand becomes the limiting factor.
