Efficient Farmhouse Workload

Matching field size and distance to farmer capacity helps keep planting and harvesting organized as a farm grows.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

A staffed farmhouse beside its assigned irrigated fields, with separate coverage for distant crop zones where practical.

A farmhouse’s farmers plant, tend, and harvest assigned crops, with harvested goods buffered before hauling. Large or distant field assignments can spread that work across blocks that are harder to service. Use the work area and crop status to decide whether one farmhouse still covers the job well, then split remote plots across another compatible farmhouse if needed.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • A compatible staffed farmhouse with Plant Crops available.
  • Suitable irrigated crop blocks in its work area.
  • A second farmhouse if a distant field needs a separate local crew.
  • Storage and paths reachable by farmers and haulers.
  1. Place the farmhouse near the largest practical share of the intended field.
  2. Mark crops only on suitable blocks inside its displayed work area.
  3. Observe which blocks are planted and harvested, and check the farmhouse output buffer.
  4. If a remote plot remains poorly serviced, place a second compatible farmhouse closer to that plot.
  5. Assign the remote plot to the nearer work area and verify its crop marks and water status.
  6. Ensure each farmhouse’s harvest can reach storage and any required processor.
  7. Reassess coverage after changing field size, paths, or district boundaries.

Farming tips

  • Use displayed work areas to plan assignments instead of stretching one crew across the whole district.
  • Keep ingredient crops near their Grills, Gristmills, or Bakeries where the layout allows.

Repeat, collect and use

Revisit field assignments as the colony expands: check planting and harvest activity, split distant plots when useful, and keep each output route working.

Common mistakes

  • Expanding one field beyond practical farmhouse coverage: check marked blocks and crew activity before adding area.
  • Adding a second farmhouse without giving it a useful nearby plot: place it to cover the distant zone and route its harvest.
  • Ignoring water when diagnosing slow field work: confirm the blocks remain irrigated as well as in range.

When to stop or switch

Stop splitting fields once each crew can service its assigned blocks and output reaches storage; consolidate or reassign if a farmhouse has little useful work.
