Wheat supports a multi-building food chain that turns harvested grain into bread for the colony.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Irrigated wheat blocks in range of a compatible, staffed farmhouse, with a Gristmill and Bakery reachable by local hauling.
Wheat is an ingredient crop, so plan its processing and storage along with its field. Farmers harvest wheat; a Gristmill turns it into flour, and a Bakery uses flour to make bread. Keep the chain within a district’s workable hauling network and protect the field from drought.
A staffed farmhouse that offers Wheat in its crop choices.
Suitable irrigated field blocks inside that farmhouse’s work area.
A Gristmill and Bakery, with paths and storage accessible to production and hauling.
Check that the chosen faction and farmhouse can grow Wheat, then place the farmhouse to cover the planned field.
Mark suitable blocks as Wheat using Plant Crops and confirm they remain irrigated.
Place a Gristmill where it can receive harvested wheat, and make room for flour output.
Place a Bakery where it can receive flour; make sure its output can reach food storage.
Use district paths and storage to connect field output, flour production, and finished bread.
Watch each building’s input and output status; correct the missing link before enlarging the field.
Keep bread accessible to beavers and reserve enough field capacity to replace what the chain consumes.
Farming tips
Raw wheat is an ingredient, not the finished bread food; follow both processing stages.
Keeping the farm, mill, bakery, and storage near one another reduces the distance goods must travel.
Repeat, collect and use
This is a repeatable crop and processing chain: plant and harvest wheat, mill flour, bake bread, and restock storage while water, staffing, and ingredients remain available.
Common mistakes
Growing wheat with a farmhouse that does not offer it: verify faction compatibility in the crop menu.
Expecting bread directly from wheat: add both a Gristmill and Bakery, then check their inputs.
Expanding the field while processing is stalled: identify whether wheat, flour, power, staffing, or hauling is missing first.
When to stop or switch
Pause field expansion when flour or bread storage is already sufficient, or when drought reserves cannot maintain the wheat blocks; resume when the chain can use more output.
