WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A shallow-water planting area within an Aquatic Farmhouse’s range, with a Gristmill, power and Bakery connected to local storage.
Cattail is an aquatic crop for Folktails. Its Aquatic Farmhouse harvests Cattail Roots, which must pass through a powered Gristmill and then a Bakery before they become edible Cattail Crackers. This is a longer chain than direct food crops, so start it when your colony can support the required buildings, power and baking logs. The Farmhouse itself stands above water while its farmers work shallow water plots; protect the field from badtides before assigning workers.
Folktails faction and researched/unlocked Aquatic Farmhouse, Gristmill and Bakery.
Shallow water plots and an Aquatic Farmhouse placed on dry ground nearby.
Power for the Gristmill, plus logs for Bakery operation.
Storage and hauling capacity for roots, flour and crackers.
Choose a shallow-water area and confirm it is reachable from dry ground where the Aquatic Farmhouse can be built.
Place the Aquatic Farmhouse above water and staff it; mark suitable water tiles for Cattail.
Keep crops and workers out of contaminated water by establishing badtide protection first.
Connect the harvested Cattail Roots to a powered Gristmill and provide the power it needs.
Route Cattail Flour to the Bakery and maintain a log supply for baking.
Keep storage space available for roots, flour and finished crackers so each stage can unload.
Check the production chain after a work cycle: identify whether planting/harvesting, power, hauling or baking is the current bottleneck.
Expand the marked water field or downstream capacity only after the chain is moving output consistently.
Farming tips
Cattail Roots are an ingredient, not edible food; the flour and Bakery stages are both required.
Aquatic Farmhouses must be above water even though their crops grow in shallow water.
Repeat, collect and use
Farmers replant marked Cattail tiles after harvest. Keep the field protected and the downstream power, hauling and logs supplied; collect Cattail Crackers from the Bakery storage.
Common mistakes
Marking deep water or building the Aquatic Farmhouse in flooded space: use shallow plots and keep the building above water.
Sending roots straight to beavers: grind them into flour and bake them first.
Ignoring power or Bakery logs: restore those inputs before enlarging the field.
When to stop or switch
Stop adding Cattail plots when cracker storage meets food needs or when power, hauling, badtide control or logs cannot support another field expansion.
