Spadderdock to Grilled Spadderdock

Use shallow-water Spadderdock plots to add a separate aquatic food route and convert the harvest at Grills.

PC / Global, 1.0 released March 12, 2026
WHERE & HOW TO FARM

Where to farm

Shallow water plots reachable by an Aquatic Farmhouse, with Grills and log supply near the colony food route.

Spadderdock is the Folktails’ second aquatic crop and follows a shorter production path than Cattail: the Aquatic Farmhouse harvests it and Grills turn it into food. Plan the field in shallow water within a staffed Aquatic Farmhouse’s range, while keeping the farmhouse itself above water. Because the crop is aquatic, it gives a colony another way to use suitable wet terrain. Protect the plot from badtides, then watch whether harvesting, storage or Grill throughput is limiting output before you enlarge the planting area.

GET STARTED

How to farm

Before you go

  • Folktails faction with an Aquatic Farmhouse and Grills available.
  • Shallow water suitable for Spadderdock planting.
  • Aquatic Farmhouse positioned above water with farmer workers assigned.
  • Logs for Grill operation and storage/hauling for Spadderdock and grilled output.
  1. Select a shallow-water patch and verify that it lies within the Aquatic Farmhouse work range.
  2. Build the Aquatic Farmhouse on dry ground beside the water, then staff it.
  3. Mark the chosen water tiles for Spadderdock and confirm farmers can reach them.
  4. Provide protection from contaminated badtide water before relying on the crop for food.
  5. Connect Spadderdock output to Grills and keep logs available for the cooking step.
  6. Keep the farmhouse and Grill output storage clear so harvested crops do not stall on the field or at the processor.
  7. Inspect the route after harvest: resolve access, hauling or Grill input shortages before expanding.
  8. Add another marked patch only when the existing field reliably supplies the food chain.

Farming tips

  • Spadderdock is an ingredient; the Grill is the processing step that makes it edible.
  • Farmhouse placement and field placement differ: the building stays above water while the crop tiles are aquatic.

Repeat, collect and use

The staffed Aquatic Farmhouse replants marked Spadderdock after harvest. Maintain shallow water, safe conditions, hauling and Grill logs, then collect the processed food from the Grill.

Common mistakes

  • Flooding the Aquatic Farmhouse itself: construct it above the waterline and let farmers access the field.
  • Planting in deep water or outside work range: use shallow reachable tiles.
  • Treating harvested Spadderdock as finished food: route it to Grills and supply logs.

When to stop or switch

Stop expanding once the food store meets the colony’s need or when the Grill/log/hauling chain cannot keep pace.
