Barley can be replanted directly and milled into Barley Flour, supporting Plains food production.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
Fuling villages and fields in the Plains; barley grows only in the Plains biome.
Barley is a Plains-only crop that also serves as its own planting input. Secure an initial supply from the Plains, grow it in cultivated Plains soil, save barley for the next planting, and mill the surplus into flour for cooking.
A spatial example for organizing food crops, seed-bearing plants, a central access path, and a protective fence. Plant spacing is illustrative: check that each plant reports healthy in your world. Barley and Flax require a Plains plot.
GET STARTED
How to farm
Before you go
Initial barley from a Fuling village, field, or chest.
A Cultivator and cultivated Plains soil with open sky.
A Windmill if you plan to turn surplus barley into flour.
Scout a Fuling village from a safe distance and identify a retreat route.
Clear a manageable path to a field or storage area and collect initial barley.
Return to a defensible Plains plot and cultivate the soil.
Plant some barley directly; harvested barley is also the planting input.
Leave crops spaced and under open sky, checking plant status if growth fails.
Harvest mature barley and reserve part for replanting.
Mill surplus barley into Barley Flour at a Windmill and store it for food recipes.
Farming tips
Choose a defensible plot that does not require crossing an active village for every farm visit.
Store planting barley separately from flour so processing cannot consume the next crop.
Repeat, collect and use
Repeat the harvest, reserve, and milling loop. Each planting batch renews the farm, while milling consumes the barley processed.
Common mistakes
Trying to grow barley outside the Plains: move the plot to Plains soil.
Looking for a separate seed item: plant harvested barley directly.
Milling the whole harvest: reserve barley for replanting first.
When to stop or switch
Stop milling when flour stores cover your cooking plans, while retaining enough barley to replant.
