Green Manure adds soil fertility but produces no food. It can serve as a recovery slot when other crop choices or fertilizer supply cannot maintain a farm’s fertility target, while costing time that could otherwise grow food.

WHERE & HOW TO FARM
Where to farm
A farm growth calendar with Crop Rotation available and a Green Manure recipe unlocked.
Use Green Manure deliberately in a rotation when fertility recovery is more valuable than harvesting food during that slot. It counts as a plant for rotation planning, so avoid placing it beside the same crop and confirm its effect in the farm’s fertility status before making it a permanent part of the schedule.
Crop Rotation research and a farm that supports the relevant crop schedule.
Green Manure available as a farm recipe or seed.
A fertility need that cannot be handled more effectively with another crop choice or fertilizer supply.
Inspect the farm’s fertility status and crop calendar to identify the recovery need.
Check which crops are available and whether a different food-producing crop can maintain the rotation.
If no suitable alternative is available, add Green Manure as a calendar entry.
Ensure the entries next to Green Manure are not identical crops, including across the calendar boundary.
Keep the farm’s water supply and output handling ready for the other crops in the schedule.
Run the calendar and monitor fertility after Green Manure’s growth slot.
Remove or replace the slot when fertility is stable or a better food-producing rotation becomes available.
Farming tips
Green Manure contributes fertility but does not provide food, so treat its calendar time as a tradeoff.
Check the whole calendar boundary; repeated crops can still incur a penalty even with a longer schedule.
Repeat, collect and use
Green Manure can recur each time its calendar slot comes around. This is an ongoing crop choice, not a one-time resource pickup; its value depends on whether the farm needs the fertility recovery.
Common mistakes
Counting Green Manure as a food harvest: route food demand through the other crops.
Keeping it in the rotation after better options become available: reassess fertility and crop choices.
Ignoring adjacency rules: check neighboring calendar entries for repeated crops.
When to stop or switch
Remove Green Manure when rotation or fertilizer maintains the desired fertility without sacrificing needed food harvests, or when the farm’s crop plan changes.
