Compacted Coal acquisition

Unlock and select Ionized Fuel in a Refinery. Provide Rocket Fuel and Power Shards, then connect output handling for both products.

Compacted Coal is a solid fuel for vehicles and Coal-Powered Generators, and it can feed optional alternate recipes. The standard Ionized Fuel recipe makes it as a coproduct in a Refinery: each batch uses 16 m³ Rocket Fuel and 1 Power Shard, producing 16 m³ Ionized Fuel and 2 Compacted Coal. Plan for both outputs so a full Ionized Fuel or Compacted Coal line does not block the machine.

GET STARTED

How to craft

Before you craft

  • Unlock the Ionized Fuel recipe and Refinery.
  • Per batch: 16 m³ Rocket Fuel and 1 Power Shard produce 16 m³ Ionized Fuel and 2 Compacted Coal.
  1. Produce or obtain Rocket Fuel and pipe it to the Refinery.
  2. Route Power Shards to the machine, reserving one per recipe batch.
  3. Select Ionized Fuel in the Refinery.
  4. Connect pipes or storage for the 16 m³ Ionized Fuel output.
  5. Connect a belt or storage for the 2 Compacted Coal coproduct.
  6. Check both output buffers and use the Compacted Coal for fuel or an unlocked downstream recipe.

Crafting tips

  • At 100% clock, the recipe consumes 40 m³ Rocket Fuel and 2.5 Power Shards per minute, producing 40 m³ Ionized Fuel and 5 Compacted Coal per minute.
  • Alternate recipes that use Compacted Coal require their own unlocks.

Repeat, collect and use

Run the Refinery while Rocket Fuel, Power Shards, and capacity for both outputs are available.

Common mistakes

  • Do not search for a Compacted Coal resource node; it is produced as a coproduct in the standard Ionized Fuel recipe.
  • Do not let either Ionized Fuel or Compacted Coal output fill up and block production.

When to stop or switch

Stop when your Compacted Coal reserve is sufficient or Rocket Fuel, Power Shards, or output capacity is needed elsewhere.
